Team History

In 1973 with barely a driver's license, Joey Sonntag began his own racing career. From 1985 to 1988, Sonntag and the racing team ran several ARCA races including Michigan, Talladega, Daytona, and Atlanta. He successfully finished each of those races within the top 25. Sonntag started competing in the NASCAR Truck series in 1999 and what began as a business relationship between himself and Ron Crosby soon went from lumber and concrete to the race tracks.

Soon after the 2000 season got under way, Crosby followed the Sonntag racing Team. As the season came to a close, it was apparent that, with Sonntag's experience and knowledge of racing and Crosby's effective business management, together they could produce a competitive NASCAR Truck Team. As plans were being made for the 2001 season, things began moving swiftly for the Team. Sonntag Racing became Tagsby Racing.

Sonntag and Tagsby racing has competed in over 70 NASCAR Truck Series races. Out of the 70 plus races, the team has qualified for over 98% of the races, missing just one race. The team has finished in the top third of the owner points for the years 1999, 2000 and 2001 with purse winnings of over $575,000, despite having limited sponsorship and not racing the full schedule. After an eight year layoff, Tagsby Racing is looking for great success in a limited schedule in 2009.
